I currently have 50 points for emigration to Australia and have successfully passed my offshore practical assessment…
I have scored an overall band score of 8 in the IELTS general training test but the reading module score was 7, therefore I fall 10 points shy as above…
I am 43 years old and my birthday is in October 2017…
I am attempting to emigrate on the 189 skilled visa…
Do I currently have absolutely no choice whatsoever but to get the better IELTS score would you know, or are there some imminent changes coming soon around the points system?
Also is it correct that my wife’s qualifications etc can’t be combined with mine in order to improve our chances…?
    Thanks in advance…

There are options other than the 189 visa. Securing a higher score in IELTS would help but all is not lost. I believe you may do much better in a re-sit of your test as many people do improve the second time around. I do not know anything about your wife’s qualifications to comment on her ability to boost your scores.

In short – re-sit your IELTS and if you fail again we can help you review your options.
