Canadian Provincial Nomination Programs (PNPs)

Provincial Nomination Program PNP leading to permanent residency in Canada

Canadian Provincial Nomination Programs

No doubt about it: Canada's federal government is happy to stand aside and let the various provinces make immigration decisions. And the provinces are happy to step-up and make those decisions for themselves!
That's why we've seen both wholesale reforms, and important tweaks to existing regulations, that all seem to favour the provincial determinations about who and how many migrants they want to welcome.

Who are PNP's for?

Most of these programs are designed to help employers recruit foreign nationals, along with recently graduated international students, whose skills are in demand.
Typically, provincial employers may only hire foreign nationals for positions they certify they remain unable to fill from permanent resident or Canadian citizen applicants, but there are exceptions even to this rule.
Keeping track of the virtually innumberable PNP options is a job in itself. But you can skip the tricky bit by completing our free assessment, and secure the advice you need about programmes that work for you:

Fundamental PNP Criteria

To be considered for nomination under these programs, you should expect various parameters, with some variations on these themes depending on the province.
You should be between be 21 and 55 years old, and have:
  • At least one year of related work experience.
  • Educational qualifications of not less than a Canadian high school diploma equivalent;
  • Appropriate training, skills and/or accreditation for the job;
  • Language abilities equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 5 if you are a skilled worker.
  • In many cases, a full-time job offer of employment from a provincial employer is required.
  • The ability to show you have sufficient financial resources to settle successfully.
